After its establishment, Erie Insurance started expanding immediately. By 1928, it opened its second office in Pittsburgh, P.A. and expanded outside of Pennsylvania by 1953.

A.M. Best Company rated Erie Insurance as A+ for Superior in terms of property and casualty. A.M. Best Company also rated The Erie Family Life Insurance Company as A for Excellent.

For three consecutive years, from 2008 to 2010, Erie Insurance was awarded the highest ranking among all auto insurance companies for satisfying buyers.
